White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting

The spring explodes with exciting white water adventures on the Moose River and the Black River. We recommend Adirondack River Outfitters located in Old Forge and Watertown for some of the best rafting and kayaking in the area.

Simply put, the Moose River is the wildest trip in the Northeast. In April the river awakens after a long winters nap to become the ultimate whitewater challenge for springtime rafting. The Moose is not for everyone and even the hardiest whitewater veteran is quickly and rudely awakened to the reality of the Moose. When the river slows in July and August the Moose offers a delightful river experience for beginners and families. All trips originate at the Old Forge location of Adirondack River Outfitters.

The “BIG-WATER Black” provides an intensity not found on the other rivers. Rafters must perform difficult maneuvers as they negotiate threatening hydraulics and exploding waves. The possibility of an unexpected swim or an overturned raft exists throughout the trip. As with Moose the “BIG-WATER Black” is not for everyone, however the river quiets down in June-August to provide excellent family and beginner rafting. The Black River Gorge adventure starts at the Watertown location of Adirondack River Outfitters.
